Hi,

When playing an MP3 track in My Music the hard disk shows alot of activity (seen by the light on the front), the same as if I was watching a film from the hard disk. If I play the same track in WMP10 then there is almost no disk activity, as one would expect.
Is this "extra" disk activity normal and why?

OK, I did a fresh install of 0.2.0.0 and then upgraded to 0.2.0.4 to see if this annoying problem would go away. And it unfortunately

However, after a little more testing it would seem that the intense disk activity only happens for the first play of a particular track. If I stop the track and then start it again, hey presto no excessive disk activity... The same behaviour happens for all tracks.

Also, if I play the track within WMP10 first and then fire up MediaPortal and play the same track, hey presto again, there is no excessive disk activity!

After a restart the same happens again with the first play causing excessive disk activity (irrespective if I had played it before previous to the restart).

The only way that I can get around this is to use DirectShow as the Internal Music Player instead of WMP10.

Anyone can help me out to what might be happening??

Are you just looking at the light to determine disk activity? It could actually be fairly light, but frequent disk access. Because it doesn't happen when you use the directshow player (and when you open it in WMP10 first) I am guessing it is a WMP10 issue, probably something to do with maintaining a medialibrary or similar functionality.

Try the latest SVN on MP 2.0.0! it contains a new and fantastic independant mediaplayer. With independant I mean it doesn't need any external codecs or player anymore. It's a lot faster.
I suggest u use the BlueTwo or project Mayhem II skin with this SVN and run config again to configure the newly installed player. It offers a lot of new features and a new now playing screen (with the skins mentioned before). Also, there might be some some small bugs that you can help discover and meybe even solve.

I have tried turning off all the "medialibrary" options within WMP10 but to no avail. I had come to the same conclusion that WMP10 must be doing something in the background...
