It seems that the My News plugin asks users for an RSS or Atom feed (not sure of the last one), shows the corresponding xml items on-screen. However, when clicking on an item, it tries to retrieve the url associated with that item and shows the entire page instead of the concent of the xml file. Is this intentional?
IMHO it would be wise to just show the content of the xml file, since the corresponding webpage has things like menus, comment boxes, left and right navigation, text ads, etc., which now show up in My News.

Any hints?

I think the content is shown in the textbox below the news items. And when you just highlight the heading you want to read the article for (move your mouse over it, but don't click) the content will appear below. The click option is IMO for pages like heise.de that don't deliver content but only the headings in their feed. So with a click you don't get a "nice view" of the content, but at least you can read it at all...

Hmm, I think I was expecting this plugin to behave as a true RSS reader, since it asks the user to supply rss feeds. Is there a plugin that only outputs rss-xml content?

Maybe I didn't understand you then... Why isn't the plugin a "true rss reader"? I think it is ;-)

A true rss reader reads the content of the rss-feed. If clicking on an item retrieves the actual page, I would rather have the page loaded in the web browser plugin, since it *is* a web page, as opposed to mere text (in rss-feed). For example, for one of my feeds, I have to scroll through 25 pages to get to the actual article.

The layout of the my news page is IMO built for text. Also, it doesn't renders special characters correctly.

    Does this make sense?

Then just don't click on the news item. If you just move your mouse over the item you want to have the content for it will appear in the text field below.

I use this plugin for cinema scheduling in my town. The feed is quite long and in order to be able to read the last program I have to wait the scroll for 3-4 minutes... not so usable, indeed.
