Hi,

I've just finished building my first HTPC and I've come across a problem when watching live TV - the screen stutters randomly and takes about 5-30 seconds to restart again.

I've been researching this problem and so far, the possible problems are:

1) Catalyst Control Center - I was running 7.10, but I've now rolled back to 7.2

2) Video Decoder - I've tried numerous one: MP defaults, nero etc

3) Audio Decoder - Again, I've tried numerous ones (I can't remember which ones exactly, and I'm at work so can't check at the moment)

4) Twinhan BDA drivers - I'm currently running version 1.2.3.8 and it appears that 1.2.1.9 might be a solution to this however, I'm not so sure as MP was working fine on my desktop PC with the DVB-C card installed. I might be wrong though :)

I'll attach my logs when I get home, but I was just wondering if anyone has come across this before?

Thanks

Every now and then tv will start to stutter randomly for me also. Turning tv off/on fixes it. The only common hardware we have is the motherboard. I am currently running CCC 7.12.

How about AMD's Cool 'N' Quiet -- are you running it? I know my BE-2350 used to create 15-20 fps while CNQ was active instead of the 60fps it should. Press the ! (Exclaimation or <shift><1> key) while MP is running and observe your fps. See if that's it and let us know.

One other thought is their Dual-Processor Optimizer?

    Hi,

Firstly, thanks for replying - your reply is much appreciated....especially as this is the final step to me completing a fully functional HTPC.

I've already disabled cool 'n' quiet and although it made a difference (it took longer to freeze - upto 1 minute), it still happens.

    What is 'Dual-Processor Optimizer'?

I'm a web developer by trade - give me a website and I'll make it dance for you - make it hardware and I'm as confused as a cow on astroturf :)

    Thanks again

if your OS is in English, download the updated quartz.dll in the stuttering thread (sorry, I don't have the link right now, and I've gotta run). That helps enormously.

    Dual Core Optimizer

You should search for others using the Catalyst Drivers for which work and which do not. Rolling back is good because I've heard the ones last Fall were bad... can't say which to use or if the latest 8.2 are "fixed."

See if you can get stable TV viewing with the application that came with the tuner. That would help eliminate its driver from MP. Do you see studder only while viewing? How about recorded TV, or time-shifted TV?
