My TVSeries crashes MediaPortal (Too Many Series?) (1 Viewer)

MediaPortal regularly crashes on me when I'm browsing in the banner screen in My TVSeries. I have a fairly large database, about 140 shows, and many series are on external drives. It seems like this might be the problem. I've searched around, and my problem is pretty similar to this: Issue 128 - mptvseries - MediaPortal Crashing - Google Code and this: fontEngine.log does not respect custom log path - MediaPortal Forum, but neither of their solutions worked. If it's just too many shows, than I'll just disable what I don't plan on watching soon, but it would be amazing if someone could take a look at this for me.

note: I haven't had any crashes during playback or problems in configuration, it only seems to crash on the banner screen.

specs:
32-bit Vista SP2
MP 1.0.2.0
My TV Series 2.2.3345
Intel 6600 2.40GHz
4GB Ram
nVidia 7600
MP Standalone filter pack

Can't be too many shows. I have >90 series, >9000 episodes and it runs fine on a fairly old PC (the shows are on a W2K8 server). Running MP 1.0.1, 32-bit Vista SP2, 2GB ram, nvidia 7600. I use UNC file naming convention whenever possible (\\server\share instead of F:\share).

??? - you have less shows and I heard from others too, that tvseries has problems with very big databases.
this comes to effects like not loading all episodes in the config screen (timeouts?)

But the problem described here sounds more like the huge amount of resources being loaded inside MP causes problems.

You can test: Use tvseries in genreview (or just add sonme favourites and use this view) - this helped me to prevent MP from crashing.
I further discuvered, that simpler skins are less affected than others (monochrome vs. StreamedMP)

Any ideas and help qould be welcome...

Thanks a lot for the replies, this issue is driving me crazy. It feels like my only surefire solution is to discontinue use of My TVSeries, and that's something I really don't want to do. I played around with StreamedMP and was able to crash MP within a few minutes. I will definitely try genre view and I also may as well try cutting my database by half. Anyone else with a large database and stability problems?

Uh, I have 90 SERIES - e.g. Bewitched is a series, and within it there are 5 seasons of ~20 episodes.
Overall I have over 9000 episodes (i.e. 9000 shows). Somewhat more than the 140 shows the OP stated.

Perhaps the OP means that he has 140 series, not shows? (although he goes on to mention series as well: "I have a fairly large database, about 140 shows, and many series are on external drives.". So by that I'd say he has 140 episodes and perhaps a dozen series.

Update: I just checked and in fact I have 114 series and 8387 episodes (shows).

Perhaps there's ambiguity with the word "Shows", which I interpret to mean an individual episode.

Well, I was understanding 140 series - sorry, if I misunderstood. But regardless of this, I have read about several people having problems when number of episodes goes beyond approx 10.000. there have been some fixes and improvements in the past - but hey, it seems you are close to be a tester for this ;-)

The only problem im aware of is that some SQL queries in the plugin timeout with more than 11,000 episodes e.g. the query that populates the tree view list that gets generated in Configuration.

I have tested in MediaPortal with 45,000 episodes and seems to run ok without crashes.

    Hi Damien,
yes, can confirm this timeout problem - but afaik this does NOT affect the operation of the plugin, right?

The other problem that I think is here is crashing if lots of banners are shown - this gets worse when using "complex skins" like streamed MP. I don't think this is initially a mytvseries problem - but it is "triggered" by mpTVseries because of the exessive use of caching, elements etc.
I use "favourites view" which reduces amount of cache memory and display items and avoids crashed for me - but it is almost reproducable if I don't filter the banner view to get a crash or at least changed behaviour (like skin is zoomed somehow and everything misplaced etc.
    regards, Guzzi
