I get the following message whenever I try to run MySQL Server Instance Config Wizard: "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."

I have Administrator rights. I have tried running it in safe mode. Reinstalling the program. Scanning the file, folder for viruses. Taking ownership of the file and folder. Nothing has worked.

If I install MySQL Server 5.1 through the MediaPortal installation program, I get the message "MYSQL - start service exception - Failed to install application [MySQL 5.1]"

I have also tried installing Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express from the MediaPortal installation program, but that fails to install as well.

I had MySQL Server 5.1 running properly with my previous installation of MediaPortal 1.0.2, but ran into this problem when I uninstalled it and installed MediaPortalSetup 1.1.0_BETA-1 rev23491.

The problem now occurs with both MediaPortal_1.0.2_Setup and MediaPortalSetup_1.1.0_BETA-1_rev23491

I don't know what to try next. Can anyone help?

AW: MySQL Installation Problem (Logs attached)

I am fighting with a similar issue. I get the message "MySQL Set password Error:1" during a clean (and default) installation of MP(1.1.0 beta1-rev23491) on Win7 64 home premium while the installer tries to install mysql.

Might not be connected, as I am trying on win7 and you on win xp sp3 as I see in your logs.
But who knows. I am running out of ideas here atm.

I had the same on Win 7 x86. A work around was to install MySQL and then install MP, telling it MYSQL was already installed.

Re: MySQL Installation Problem (Logs attached)

The problem ended being a WMI issue. The service wouldn't start. I noticed this when I tried to run System Information. After spending a few hours trying to fix it, I reinstalled XP using the Repair option and that solved the WMI problem. However, I still was having a problem starting an SQL 5.1 service, so I switched to MS SQL 2005 server and now everything works.

tomtom21000 and wishywashy, thank you for your input.
