I used to run Meedio as a media-center but I've made a switch to MP when Meedio got bought by Yahoo. In Meedio there was a music-game that was really good that I miss. I've searched these forums but haven't found anythink like it.

The game scanned your music-database for a number of songs, played them for you and you had to guess artist name or album name. The faster you answered the more points you received. It was really entertaining, especially when you have a large collection. Used it at some small parties as well and it was really good fun!

Do anyone here know anything similar? Or maybe someone who wants to develop a plugin and don't have an idea what to do, please do a "Name Me Game".

how did you choose the answer?
did you yell into a microphone or enter with keyboard/remote?
or did the time stop when you pressed sth like a buzzer and let you fill in your guess?


I like the idea. Didn´t know the meedio plugin but could think of some cool features in MP:

• With the help of the database you could narrow it to certain genres or decades

• with the help of last.fm you could vary it from very popular songs to rather seldom played songs

• With the help of last.fm you could choose (scrobble) only similar songs

• Name players or choose from a prepopulated list

• results in percent or points or time

• stop song after x seconds or play until guess

• only add a certain maximum time per guess + malus for wrong guesses

• start songs in the middle (sample game) or at the beginning (intro game)

• Maybe give a list of possible answers to choose from

• buzz for solution, only tell your co-players verbally your guess, then press "show solution" <- easier to enter with remote then artist name

• add a text to speech component (I think there is already one somewhere) "Well done"/"correct"/"brilliant"/applause or a couple of sound files the plugin chooses from

• With a help button you could show the number of letters an artist name has and 2 of the letters. Another press would give you 2 more letters _ _ T _ _ R_ _ _ _

• You could make it a 1 or 2 player/teams contest (2 clocks counting up) and guess in turns

The link has some good, inspiring pictures and some good explanaitions of the game mechanisms.

Also it has a bonus game "Get the picture" where you guess the artist from an artist picture (see attachment)

Maybe it can be used as stand-alone, but full integration would be nicer.
Maybe the author is interested in a MP version?
