Don't know why I haven't seen this thread before, but I think it is a very important discussion, because it deals with the most basic and important experience for mediaportal. Today my own setup is fairly simple: I use MP for Live TV, Videos, Movies, Music and to some extent pictures. The important thing for me is to be able to go to the basic functions using as few taps on the remote as possible. Yes! I could use shortcuts and coded buttons, but I would really like the overview, as offbyone suggests. I've been using Windows 8 for a while now for testing purpose, and the more I work in the Metro enviroment, the more I like it. It's simple in the expression, easy to navigate in (you a one-click access to app's you use all the time) and the live tiles are great, as long as you don't let the ever changing test distract you. I don't know how it will work with a remote, though, but it made me think of slightly different approach to the spider web nav: 4 square tiles arranged in a square, representing 4 areas of MP. These tiles have different colors. If you make these tiles large enough, you could fit 6 smaller tiles on each of the large ones - 3 on the outer sides of the large square. This way all major functions is no more than 3 clicks away, and if you need more advanced menus, you can get to these by clicking the large square. I'm imagining the tiles being a bit like the tiles in metro, and preferrebly live tiles. Furthermore I think the menu should be an overlay that pulls down/fades in or whatever, when you press The Green Button. The menu should ofcourse reflect the area you're in at the moment, for example if you're waching live tv the menu should relate to this. Clicking THB again will bring you back to the main menu - live TV still in the background. Hope this makes sense. I'm a lousy programmer, but could try to make a moch up in flash to show you what I mean.
