    Forgive me if this is the wrong place for this, but it's the best I found.

    Trying to set up a computer with Mediaportal for someone over the net. He has a small local Cable-distributor named Loqal, but I have only worked with DVB-T before and there all I had to do was to select my closes broadcasting tower and press scan.

    I've done some googleing and it seems that I need to use SymbolRate 6875 (whatever that is) but the only preset I get for DVB-C in Norway is "GET - Oslo" and that uses SymbolRate 6900 when it scans. So I get no result there.

    What do I need to do to get this working?

    Edit:

    Ok I did a few searches with some of the other presets. There is finnish one (VLP) that detects some of the channels. I open it up, and find this:

    <DVBCTuning>
    <Frequency>418000</Frequency>
    <ModulationType>Mod64Qam</ModulationType>
    <SymbolRate>6875</SymbolRate>
    </DVBCTuning>

    So if I am correct, I can find frequences in another program or on the TV I should be able to just edit this file and give it a new name correct? Should I submit the new file somewhere for others to use?

    Edit 2: Ok just did a complete scan in the 6875 global preset but only found 9 of the channels they broadcast, there should be alot more. Anyone got any suggestions?

    Try to find out which modulatioun QAM is used.Best, find out the technical information for one TV Station, then do a manual search with this parameters.

    Did you try : global => dvbc symbolrate 6875 ? If you don't find anything there then edit the xml file and search/replace the qam setting to the approriate one. Mod64Qam or Mod256Qam (I did not check what is configured in the files)

    As a quick theory you have these differents settings affecting the scanning results :

    • Frequency of the transponder : (between ~50MH-~850MHz), what I don't know is if there is a list of commonly used transponder frequencies (If it's define in the standard or if it's up to the provider to decide where they want to have their channel)
    • QAM settings : (the number of possible values per / symbol) E.G. QAM 256 = 2^8 => 8 bits per symbol, the higher the value the better the signal needs to be to receive error free streams.
    • Symbol Rate : numbers of symbols per second. (tied to the channel bandwidth)

    After alot of work I did a simple scan on one of the transponders I had already found, I then got a popup saying it found 16 other transponders, and asked if I wanted to scan those aswell. I answered yes and the rest of the channels popped up.
