I have been playing around with NMM framework http://www.networkmultimedia.org they currently provide linux packages but they will have windows version.
The Network-Integrated Multimedia Middleware (NMM) provides an architecture that allows to create distributed multimedia application easily.
I'm inviting you guys to have look at maybe it will help the developer in the future to adapt similar approach.
