Summary:
An additional AR Mode. On some TV sets known as Superzoom.
Area: TV, Video
Description:
On 16:9 TVs we have a problem when watching 4:3 video. We can keep the aspect ratio having black borders left and right. The other way is to zoom the picture to the full width. But then we cut the upper and lower border of the picture. And the third way ist to stretch the picture to 16:9. But this results in eggheads. These modes are on most TV sets and are also available in Mediaportal.
Some TV sets hav an additional mode called SuperZoom. I know it from my Philips. This mode uses the full 16:9 display area. It cuts of a small amount of the upper and lower border. Then stretches the picture to the full 16:9 width. But it stretches only the left and right border. So in the middle of the picture the aspect ratio is keeped correct. So one can watch 4:3 picture on full 16:9 display area without having eggheads and only loosing a small amount of the information.
