Being impressed with XBMC on a friend's Xbox I've borrowed a MCE 2005 from another friend and backed up the whole system with True Image to be able to experiment with MP without any regrets. First of all, what is the latest stable version to install?

MediaPortal_0.2.3.0_Setup.exe?
Tried this but I cannot mount any DVDs in Daemon Tools.

MediaPortal_0.2.3.0_RC3_Setup.exe?
Did a clean install of this one, now I cannot playback any avis.
VideoPlayer9: Failed to render file -> vmr9
PlaylistPlayer: *** unable to play - D:\Media\Filme\test.avi - skipping track!

Checked back with backup from previous version which now cannot playback avis either which blows.

I also tried to record from TV but I'm getting

failed to start timeshifting since drive C: has less then 1GB freediskspace

which is annyoing since both MP and my TEMP folder is on D:\. So where tell I MP to use D:\ for timeshifting?

I CAN mount DVDs though.

MediaPortal-update-0.2.0.4.exe?
Tried to update to this one from both versions mentioned above. But I' always getting:
FireDTVKeyMap.xml could not be found

What really annoys me is that Mediaportal Config forgets my settings:

  • I delete the hybrid card to keep only by DVB-S card. When I scan for channels in MP both cards are there which is a pain in the a** cause I can't skip DVB-T selection entirely which sometimes even locks up so I have to rescan DVB-S.
  • I select list mp3s by filename, when I start they are listed by name
  • I delete my virtual drive and \my files, next time I start they are still listed

Thanks for any info.

A couple of answers (not all of them)...

0.2.3 is the latest released version. The other versions you tried are not as feature rich, and are less likely to get support for.

Daemon tools DOES work in 0.2.3. I use that all the time. Make sure that you have it set to the correct virtual drive number. It's easiest if you have only a single virtual drive, then it's just drive 0. And, of course, the drive letter.

Your timeshifting folder is set on a per-tuner card basis. Edit the capture card in configuration, and look for the setting called "recording folder". This is used for timeshifting and saved recordings.

For MP configuration losing your settings:
-can't help you with hybrid card, since I use a set top box rather than a channel scan - maybe another reply can give you a pointer.
-need more information for "list mp3s by filename". Do you have your music collection scanned? Are you just using the share view? MP, I believe, just uses the last view. There is no "default" view in configuration.
-Couldn't agree with you more here. Every time you run configuration, it re-adds all CD and DVD drives to the Shares in videos. The only thing you can do is make a habit of either ignoring them and living with it, or remembering to always delete those drives in config every time just before closing. The other option is to always use the movie and music database views instead of the shares view. Then you aren't browsing folders by share, so you never seem them.
