Hello all...
To start.. I've been watching this project for a while now.. ( a little over a year now). That being said.. i'm now ready to take the plunge !!
I have a couple of general questions.
I have a Viewsat STB at this point ... getting only FTA Channels (not pirated) I also have a digital cable box from my provider (not HD)
Here is what i want o accomplish... .. keep in mind.. I am a clean slate.. Willing to try anything to make this happen....and any recommendations on hardware and theird party software would be greatly appreciated !!!
I want to have a media Server ( DVD's, DivX, Xvid, pictures, etc) for media storage. I have a TB of space available.
The server currently has
2GB RAM
1 TB
Athlon XP 2700
1 Hauppage 250
What I want is to have this server .. sit in the basement.. Have upwards of three standard TV's ( 2x 27 inc and 1x 32 inch) networked to the server downstairs. I'd like to be able to "stream" live signals to each TV... 1 to 1.
By 1to 1 I mean.. while one tv is tuned to one "card", the other is tuned to one of the others.
I'd also like to be able to record TV (like a PVR)... not necessarily while all TV's are in use..
I'd like to be able to "remotely" control what i'm watching.. with a remote too.
Is there a way to actually attach a standard analog TV to a network? is there sucha device available?
If you can think of anything else.. let me know...
I realize that this may be asking the world.. but one does have to dream!!!!
BTW.. please feel free to be as technical as you wish. I've been in the Tech industry for more than 15 years. and know my way around hardware and software. !!
