Well basically I got a few parts together out of things I had and things i ordered. I built my first HTPC. I had installed Media portal on my laptop and another desktop I had to see how I liked it before I put it on this machine. On those two computers it worked fine but for some reason on the new one I can not get MP to open the video player when i try to play an avi or mpg file. I orginally put MCE on the machine and could not get mce to play them as well. I thought it was MCE and I installed XP pro. Still same problem. Oddly if i play it in media player they work fine. Any ideas?

Also by the way my Firefly came with beyond tv basic and it will play the files as well.

I have added FFDshow and not luck. I will check the specs on the video. that may be the issue.. would that make Media portal not work but let mediaplayer work?

I only know that a DX9 card is highly recommended. I know that some ppl get MP to work using 9250 and simular (which is DX8++).

Well it does have something to do with the video card. I even put an old 8 meg ati card in and it worked. So i updated the driver to the lates.. I have video now but its all red and it looks fine in other players very odd
