I have recently set up MediaPortal in place of Windows Media Center and after loads of tinkering I have it set up well and am very chuffed. Running X-Face skin and MovingPictures and MyTV Series plugins.

I have one outsanding issue which I just cannot solve despite hours of internet searching.

The PC is connected to my LCD TV via HDMI and power settings are such that the PC never goes to sleep or into standby, when I'm finished watching TV / listening to music etc I just turn off the LCD screen.

Unfortunately when I turn the TV back on again there is often no audio. Occasionalloy the audio comes back after a few minutes but more often than not I have to restart MediaPortal to get sound going again. The same happens is swtitching inputs on the TV (eg from AV4 wher the PC is to the Digital TV which is the TV's built in tuner)

This also happened with Windows Media Center so I don't think it's a MediaPortal problem.

It is my one outsanding issue and I'm desperately hoping someone can help.I've posted on the Sony Support Forum with no luck.

Thanks very much

Hi jonathancart

I had a similar problem, although mine was no audio after resuming from sleep. What I found is that windows has another sleep mode called "away" and its to do with sharing media. In essence when your PC is setup to share media, it blanks the video and mutes the audio which I guess makes sense if its not being played on that machine.

Id suggest disabling any sort of media sharing and see how that goes

Good luck, its a really hard one to track down

I might be wrong (i'm sure someone will correct me)... but i always thought that HDMI was video only, no audio. Unless used in conjunction with the optical out.

You say you get audio before going into standby? It sounds to me to be a problem with the output channels on your TV. Do you get the same issue when using RCA/phono connectors?

EDIT: Kiwi might be onto something there.

Hi,

yes, you are wrong. HDMI is video and audio (DVI is only video).

I have the same problem. TV freezes when turning off the display and turning it on again.

The same problem when using an HDMI switcher and switching to another source.

Kiwi,

Thanks, I have Media Sharing turned Off in Network and Sharing Centre with no luck, does anything else need disabling?

infamousurge,

The only connection between by PC and the TV is an HDMI cable so the aduio must be carried on it.

Cheers

Perhaps start MP in windowed mode so you can see the whether the sound is muted (from the OS perspective). If its muted in Vista you should be able to un-mute and get the sound going again - just helps to narrow the problem down.

When you say restart MP to get it going, is that just restarting MP, or restarting the whole PC?

Hi,

I have MediaPortal installed on a Win XP SP3 machine. Connection from PC to TV is HDMI. I had the same problem, no audio after resuming the PC. The only way I was able to make it work (and, therefore, have audio after resume) was to check the box "Restart MP on Windows resume". I takes few more seconds to go back into MP, but it works. Hope it helps.
