I was happy to see that Mediaportal is expected to be able to utilize my SMK IR transceiver through this plugin. I only get blasting on jack 2 in HIP and therefore any other media program that I have found.

Unfortunately I haven't gotten by the setup yet since neither blaster functions when pressing the test button on the IR commands page of the pluggin setup when I have chosen SMK on the options page. Blaster 2 works when selecting Microsoft as the manufacturer.

I'm using XP Home SP2 and I have tried the Ehome driver as well as the MCE replacement. Is there something that I'm missing?

It could be something I've missed in the SMK setup ...

I'll look into it further and get back to you as soon as I know more.

    Cheers,

You are incredible, I wish I could get this kid of support for the things that I have paid for.

It did work for me briefly after I posted. I switched back to the replacement driver and the test buttons made both blasters work but by the time I had finished teaching the commands and opened Mediaportal to try it out it had stopped using the blasters again. I tried cycling the drivers again but that didn't work. There was one thing different though; the computer required a restart after installing the driver when it worked. It didn't ask when I tried to replicate.

You mentioned HIP earlier, are you trying to use HIP at the same time as the plugin?

Because HIP will interfere with the plugin if they're both running at the same time. There is a mode for the plugin called Message Mode that is in there so you can run HIP at the same time and overcome this problem. Have a look in the documentation for more info on Message Mode.

    Hope that helps,

    Hi Aaron,

No, HIP is not running while I test MediaPortal.

I am no longer sure that I ever had the #1 blaster working. It seems my second blaster is quite strong and can bounce its signal making it look like the little one I had plugged into #1 was working. The little one has a red LED and I remember thinking that it was odd that I didn't see that when the effect off the blast occured.

After taking everything into consideration I think that my second post was all in error. I still get blasting on #2 only using the MS setting and no blasting using the SMK setting. This is using the 0.2.2.0 release and the 22 Feb 07 test pluggin.

Is the SMK setting working for others?

OK, so it sounds like the SMK blaster type setting isn't working properly for you. Can anyone else with an SMK blaster let us know if it works for them?

Just to explain why the port 2 thing happens:

On the Microsoft box the ports are given these ID's:

    Port 1: 4
    Port 2: 2
    Both: 6

On the SMK box the ports are given these ID's (though this could be wrong):
    Port 1: 1
    Port 2: 2
    Both: 0

So as you can see the port 2 id is the same on both config's that's why it works on either. But I can't say why the other ports aren't working for you ... I'll look into it some more.

    Cheers,

Ok, using that info I have done some testing. Set as SMK and use port 1, blaster 1 works. Set as SMK and use port 2, blaster 2 works. Set as SMK and use both, neither blaster works. Set as MS and use port 1, neither blaster works. Set as MS and use port 2, blaster 2 works. Set as MS and use both, blaster 2 works.

I'm happy that I now know #1 can work and I hope it helps you to close in on the solution.

    Thanks,
    Bob

Hi, I have the same problem with only port 2 of the blaster working. I am using IR Server Suite 1.0.4.2 RC1 with the Pinnacle Remote Kit on WinXP. Could it be that some MS remotes use bit 0(0x01) for port1 and bit 1(0x02) for port2 and 0x03 for both bits? Is there anyway I could try modifying the codes sent to the blaster?

Thanks for your wonderful piece of software!

uptownboy, you have the same problem as me, i am also using the Pinnacle Remote Kit.

So I have been using one port for half a year thinking that port 1 is somehow faulty. Only recently that i realise the problem is in the program after seeing others like you having the same problem. So after some troubleshooting, heres the reason why...

Following same line of explaination as Aaron, this Pinnacle Remote Kit (vid=2304) when "spoofed" to use Microsoft XP mce driver

    The port IDs are:

    Port 1: 1
    Port 2: 2
    Both: 3

which are different from both SMK or Microsoft..

It will be nice if the developers can add this to the code and have a new dll for next release.

I have the "only port 2 working" issue also.
If there is no standard for the port IDs, then being able to configure them sounds like a useful option to be able to work around this.
