Hello,
I am using version 1.0.2
Up until a few days ago MP TV was playing and recording OK.
Then I missed some recordings, then the Guide and TV were not visible. When I tried [TV ON] or setting a recording, a popup said "No Card Available".
I checked for antenna signals by cable switching to my NebulaUSB DTV using DigiTV_HD software and that was OK.
I could not tune channels via TV Server.
Now today I was preparing to do a re-install but MP is fine again although I do not think I have done anything.

Can an expert check the logfile and advise in case this happens again please.

    Hi there

You don't need to be an expert to read logs!
Based on the TV Server error log it looks like the connection between TV server and the database and/or MediaPortal might have gone down. The most important logs for figuring out what went wrong don't go far enough back I'm afraid...

Do you shutdown your HTPC at night, or is it running all the time?
    What about hibernate/sleep?

    Thanks for your interest mm1352000.
I inspected the logs myself and found what you spotted, but had no idea what re cuase.

I usually shutdown at night but leave it on if recordings finish late. Actually, recently ( ~ 10 days ago), with Nebulas DigiTV software, for the first time ever, I did experiment with the Shutdown Computer on recording complation, but abandoned it as a risk cause of missing recordings via MediaPortal.

Simarly, I never risk hibernate/sleep. (Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get me).

I get this too, although very infrequently. I have 3 x dual tuners, so it is unlikely that all are taken up. I either reboot, or just restart the TVService in Task Manager which usually cures it. Sorry it is no complete solution though.

Yeah, I steer clear of that too. Not that I haven't thought about trying it :D

@porky996t: I think it is pretty clear that it is either a problem between the client and server, an internal server problem that causes the server to "lose its marbles", or a server <--> hardware connection/detection problem. It isn't nice, but I agree that the best solution is to restart the TV Server. Unfortunately this is one of those issues that is really hard to track down. Logs might be helpful, but even then there are no guarantees that the problem will be detectable through studying them...

    Thanks people.

I tried umpteen restarts of TV server and MP configuration AND MP Home/TV and none helped.

I also tried running my MP backup copy that I made months ago when I had the initial installation configured and running OK. I had followed infinityloops method to the letter i.e. a clean install of WindowsXP on C:\, putting MP on D:\and then (his words) "Now create a backup of your MediaPortal installation. On D:
Copy the MediaPortal folder and rename it to for example MediaPortalBackup.
If anything goes wrong in the future (maybe during testing a CVS-Snapshot) you can easily
restore MediaPortal with the files in your Backup folder."

Initially relieved to know that I had his suggested backup , grief followed when I got exactly the same "No Card Available" popup. I couldn't tune channels with it either.
    Perhaps this info. may help.

infinityloop , if you are out there, can you suggest why the backup did not help with this?

Merry Christmas all you Poms. I hope your weather eases up quickly.

Cheers VUR - Only -10C last night! The cricket's a bit more entertaining this time around and should be a close finish; better for both sides IMO.

Sorry I can't be of more help with your problem though.

Did you try upgrading your setup to 1.1.2 instead of 1.0.2?

I did consider upgrading but as 1.0.2 had been fine and doing all I wanted for a long time plus all the configuration involved, decided to just try to understand and fix the problem. All I want to do is record TV.
Fingers crossed, since it seemed to "self heal' it is still ok.
