Why can I not watch some HDTV channels, I just get a black screen with no sound. the channels are fine if I use the TVs tuner and it is not all high def channels.

also, when they do work, sometimes they will not play at an even speed. they will play fast and slow.

Try using a different video codec. Change the audio codec to match the video one. MPV and MPA are usually good for working out problems. You will want to pass off the video load to the graphics card, so you should use the codec installed with your video driver. Is the Asus using nVidia? You could try the nVidia Pure Video encoder.

I don't have nVidia Pure Video. I tried changing codecs and got something but it is a bit hard to try much as I get a BSOD if i change codecs more than about twice.

I have found the MPA codec does not seem to support volume control on HDTV channels during some programs.

BSOD is usually from a bad program or driver. What was the last thing installed? Try uninstalling/reinstalling it, or try a newer/older version.

Does your PC meet the minimum specs? Check the wiki for specs.

the bad driver would be the kworld card driver, there's not much I can do about that but it is fine if I don't use it much or change codecs. I'm sure my specs are fine, core2 duo 2.1 and associated system.

I meant do you have everything installed or updated. There are some things that Windows update won't install automatically. You have to visit the Windows Update web site and do a "Custom" update. Install/update everthing, and do it several times, because there are updates for the updates (etc)
