I have a problem with some channels with no sound : among them, CNN (on both astra 1 and 2), Euronews (Astra 1, 2 and hotbird), Demain TV (hotbird I think), Terranova (Astra 1 I think)... I think I came across other channels with no sound but I can't remember.
I tested on 4 different PC with very different configurations, some under xp, some under vista, most are clean windows install with nothing but latest drivers, mediaportal and the divx codec. TVServer runs on a dedicated server with 4 floppyDTV DVB-S in (on vista).
I think this is a codec issue as when I test with the very useful MPTvClientV1.1 + VLC I do get sound on those channels.

If anyone could help me fix this or understand what's wrong I would really appreciate.

Thanks

Unfortunatly, no :(

I'm still looking for a solution (when I have time lol). I now know it's not cause of AC3 codec missing (It would have suprised me a lot that those channels were actually emitting in AC3 lol)

I installed progdvb on one of my computers and found out it solved the problem. Progdvb probably installed another mpeg2 codec that works better with those channels, but I'm not sure of anything yet.

Let me know if you make any progress.

I used to use only ffdshow for decoding but the solution that worked for me was using the dscaler codec for getting audio on CNN and Euronews (DVB-C germany).

EDIT: maybe we can trigger the problem by comparing our stream files. I attached excerpts of some airings. Euronews and CNN won't give out sound in MediaPortal, ProSieben does.

I found following with G-Spot (I post only the audio part):

    CNN:
    Codec: MPEG-1 Layer 2
    Info: 0xc0:48000Hz 128 kb/s , Monophonic

    Euronews:
    Codec: MPEG-1 Layer 2
    Info: 0xc0:48000Hz 64 kb/s , Monophonic

    ProSieben (4 Audiostreams):
    Codec Stream 1: MPEG-1 Layer 2
    Codec Stream 2: DVD_LPCM_AUDIO
    Codec Stream 3: DVD_LPCM_AUDIO
    Codec Stream 4: DVD_LPCM_AUDIO
    Info Stream 1: 0xc0:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , Stereo
    Info Stream 2: 0xc0:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , Stereo
    Info Stream 3: 0xc0:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , Stereo
    Info Stream 4: 0xc0:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , Stereo

I had the same problem here in Finland in Tampere TTV's DVB-C network with CNN, Travel Channel and couple of other channels.

I can confirm that using the dscaler audio coded for dvb viewing corrected the problem for me and now I can hear audio for all channel.

Thanks for the tip level20peon :)

I think you found the problem level20peon.
Out of my 50 channels there's four transmitting sound in mono. None of these gives any sound (if not using Dscaler audio codec). All other channels use stereo or joint stereo and works with any audio codec.

Now how can we fix this problem?

Is there any way to register/install dscaler audio codec after mediaportal is installed without this codec?

After hearing DScaler would work fine for mono channels I switched some ffdshow audio configuration options: Switching "MP1,MP2" audio decoder from libmad to mp3lib solved the problem
