No TV w/Hauppauge HVR-1300MCE (1 Viewer)

I have conducted a clean installation of 2.3.0 stable release in a restored backup image which hadn't yet had MP installed and initialized it with the files level20peon recommends in his post from my old RC2 installation. If I try to activate TV within the TV plugin menu, the dot goes red for a fraction of a second, before turning blue again.
Rescanning the TV channels and updating the Hauppauge HVR-1300MCE drivers brought no improvement. Even though the scan process displayed video for each TV station found, I still have no TV. The symptoms remain as described above: the dot goes red for a fraction of a second and then turns blue again; no video is displayed. Attached are my logfiles.
Error.log reveals another problem I have: webradio doesn't seem to play. However, I may need to try more stations before asking for help on this.

Meanwhile I have upgraded to the latest available Hauppauge driver versions and installed the Hauppauge application, WinTV, which, like the MP configuration program, has no problem with displaying TV.
What's going on here?
What do I have to do to get MP to work as it did with 2.3.0 RC2?

Hi,
There should not be any problem using this card together with MP, have you checked that TV channels are mapped to correct card(MP Configuration -> Television -> Channels), btw using backup files across RC to final it's really not recommended.....

Thanks for the prompt response. Everything looks OK in the mappings. Furthermore, the channels that were added by rescanning show the same behaviour. Do I need to go back to a virgin 2.3.0 installation and rescan? If it's not safe to use backups from RCs, is it safe to use a backup from the previous stable release (2.2.0)? I hate to reconfigure 50 channels by hand, and suspect that I am not alone in this. I chickened out on upgrading to TV Engine 0.3, as it is not clear to me from the Wiki page whether the HVR-1300 MCE is supported. My understanding is that it has HW decoding, so it should be OK. OTOH, I don't really need the C/S architecture (yet), and I hate to make things more complicated than necessary.

I have the same card but only using analog for now & that one works out of the box with MP on a clean XP Pro + all(yeah almost a gig) from windows update.
One thing you can try it's to disable "grab EPG" from DVB in MP Config -> Television -> Program Guide.
The old log tells a bit more then the new one so i will have a look @ it.

Thanks again. I also use only the analog section, and "grab EPG from DVB" was already disabled in my configuration. I will try clearing the channels and starting a scan from scratch. The crazy thing is that the channels provide both sound and video during channel scan in the configuration program, but are completely dead in MP's TV mode. Theoretically everythign should work with just the Hauppauge drivers (at least MCE does). Did you have to install anything else in your setup?
Also, what frame size and priority are you using?

Forgot something,
You can also try to remove in MP Configuration -> Television -> Capture card, both of them & add them again, just make sure channels are mapped correct after it....
You have to errors in the log indication something it's wrong when "timeshifting" should start...

I cleared and rescanned the channels, but the symptoms are still the same. I'll try deleting and adding the cards, as you suggest, and scan again. Is there some way to adjust MP's scanning sensitivity? Hauppauge WinTV finds 49 channels (the correct number), whereas MP comes up with 82, which includes a lot of harmonics and sidebands.

P.S. Is it possible that the problem is on the display side? This is the only thing that makes sense to me, since the channels show during scanning.

P.P.S. I deleted both cards, re-added just the analog one and rescanned: no change.
All channels show video and sound during the scan. None produce either in MP's TV mode.

P.P.P.S. The problem is in the privileges. The account I used for configuration had admin privileges, the one I was running MP under had only power user privileges. Giving it admin privileges got TV working. Giving it full control over the directories involved, without admin privileges, wasn't enough. Why does MP need an account with admin privileges for TV? The privileges don't seem to be needed for the other functions.

Not sure why it needs that, all my computers use real admin account. I know MP need it for registry entries & maybe it can't add ts buffer files if it doesn't have full control over the folders, that said happy that you find the reason
Shouldn't harm to run MP as administrator....
