Hi!

I have a problem: I cant play TV from my server on the client. I realize that WHS is not officially supported, but after what I have read quite a few of you have it up and running? Also, I'm not sure WHS is the problem after all...

So - Clean install on the server (dedicated server), clean install on the client (dedicated client)

SERVER:
  • I set up the TV channels, check that they work and name them. Preview does not work, but playing the timeshift file in VLC does work (hence the stream works)

CLIENT:
  • I set the TV server hostname (in the client configuration) to 10.0.0.2 (I first tried "server" (the hostname) on the Windows 7 computer, but then got errors like "Could not connect, port ___ not open, or similair"
  • I open MediaPortal, go to TV, then TV guide.
  • I see all channels I configured earlier
  • I choose a channel to watch
  • I get the error "Unable to play: stream1.0 [newlinex2] Audio codec:

The only oddity I can see when checking the logs is in the error log:
"Failed to open file:rtsp://server/stream1.0 :0x80004005"

Obviously MediaPortal has itself got the host name from the ip address - could this be the issue??

Edit: No progress at all really, just a question - where is the actual decoding done? I mean, if the decoding should be done on the server, maybe that is the problem? How does it work?

Anyway, I feel very lost and would greatly appreciate any help! The logs are attached. Note: the server logs are from three tv viewing attempts, not one.

Thanks

Well... My problem was that I had not installed the BDA fix for Windows XP since I didnt realize that was required for WHS as well... Also I installed Cyberlink PowerDVD's DVD codec. Those two things solved my problems. Good luck (will crosspost this).
