No video playback in MP (1 Viewer)

I've installed Mediaportal 1.0 onto a new HTPC (my second one) build with a fresh copy of Win XP Pro SP3. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get any video playback in MP what so ever. I've attempted playback of various video formats using MP's default settings, and also using ffdshow with no luck. TV playback doesn't work (satellite box feed into PVR-250), all I get is an empty dialog box. The error log reads the following -

2009-03-08 11:35:30.968750 [ERROR][MPMain]: VideoPlayer9:exception while creating DShow graph Unable to load DLL 'dshowhelper.dll': This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem. After re-installing Win XP I still get the same error. My other HTPC runs MP just fine. Any help appreciated. :D

Same problem - lift topic up the thread list :)

Hi

as I have the same problem: Does anybody has an idea?

After two year running an old version of MP I thought it might be nice to update to the current version.

So I uninstalled the old one.
Downloaded the installer (and all the files by the MP installer to a deloy folder) and installed it to my HTPC (Aopen XCCube AV) which is unfortunately offline.
After that the configuration tool crashed while scanning for TV programs I installed the dvbfix - so the config was done and I launched MP - and when I started "My TV" I only got a small box without any message text - but no TV. So once more using this board I discovered that I need SP 3 - shame on me for the wrong order :(
So installed SP3 - same error. Reinstalled DirectX (which is downloaded by MP) as it might have been changed by SP3 - same error.

I get the same message as MichaelMP - so what's wrong with my PC? :(

Thanks for any reply

Thomas

I've figured it out, it seems that I had the wrong C++ redistributable installed. While using the MP installer to create an offline install the Microsoft website seemed to be having issues and I couldn't download the C++ redis, so I used a copy of the redis that I already had. It turns out that MP only works with the 'C++ redistributable 2005 SP1' not C++ redistributable 2005.
