No Video playback (1 Viewer)

Video Card: ATI GPU Radeon 9000 Mobile
Video Card Driver: 8.20 (Dell Package)
Sound Card: Sigmatel C-Major Audio
Sound Card AC3:
Sound Card Driver: 5.10.0.3952
TV setup: None (no server no card)


Call me stupid but i really am missing something i guess
My setup does not play video....
When i try to play it gives me the screen "Unable to play"

its with MKV aswel as with AVI (Xvid) files
Laptop fully mint install.
Mediaportal 1.02 mint install

Tried installing ffdshow-tryout/haali and followed "MKV Manual from this forum"
Reinstalled machine to check if MS update possibly caused it because functioned like a year ago on the same system
tried codecpack cccp (latest)
Tried SAF saf400rc1 (after deinstalling cccp ofcourse)

The funny thing is that Windows Mediaplayer (including classic) plays the files great. (with every codec setup)

so i'm missing something here, anyone has a pointer?

Switching renderer from VMR9 to EVR seems to fix the problem
Although the warning "Only software renderer under XP" is mentioned below setting EVR i dont mind cause i doubt that the radeon 9000 has hardware render capabilities
