Not sure what it's called, but can MediaPortal do it? (1 Viewer)

My wife uses the A/V inputs on her TV Wonder Pro card so she can play her Nintendo Gamecube on her PC monitor. She opens the ATI TV Tuner player (whatever it's called these days), and switches the input from CATV to Video, and bingo! It works.

Question 1: What is this task called so I can do better searches for it in the future?

Question 2: Can this be done with MediaPortal?

Question 3: How?

Thanks,
Glendor...

Not fully sure, but you may try:
Go to MP setup, TV, TVchannels.
Add a channel.
In the channel setup (edit or double click), go to the tab "external". Switch to recieve by settop and try some settings for the second dropdown. You can probably ignore the channel number stuff.

    Hi,
In MP Setup -> Television -> TV Channels, use the add CVBS/SVHS & open this channel in My TV (that works here with Playstation)

If I remember correctly, however, the video can lag noticeably behind the inputs from the controls. Not sure if there is a way to get this working well in MediaPortal. This may or may not be noticeable in some games, but rythm games and the like may be a problem. Maybe someone else has gotten this working with a console and can help you.

The gap comes from the mpeg2 compression. Have you got an hardware encoder? I mean, does your video card encode the analog stream or it's up to your cpu?

    F.

Oh, I don't want/need to hook up a console to my HTPC. If I want to play a console game I just connect it directly to my TV. I just remember people have had problems with it in the past. It may be better if, as you say, the card is not a hardware encoder. Just, in general, I don't believe MediaPortal is designed with low latency in mind as it is generally not an issue with the normal video streams it is designed for.

Thanks for the offer to help though.

    Glendor,

This setup is possible as well (depending on the plethora of inputs your TV/monitor might have.)
For this setup, you will need for methods to let your PC give an output to your TV's IR receiver, for example, MCE remotes ship with one or two extenders ("Blasters") made for this purpose. Look for the MyBlaster plugin.
