For a few days I have had a strange problem.. It looks like VMR9 mode wont work. EVR works fine, but with VMR9 selected I only get a quick flash of a black screen then it returns to MP without playing the file. I have tested changing codecs and removing exsclusive mode but to success. If it would not be for the tearing i get with EVR i would be using it, but VMR9 gives me much better results.

    The log files says:

I have tried the latest SVN and downgraded to older SVN's but the same problem persists. Any ideas on what can be causing this? I have read something about a graph that shows what filter is connected to what and such but I have never used it. So if anybody could point me to where i enable this setting or download the application for it I would be thankfull.

You need to set "Deinterlace method" in CCC to "Automatic" otherwise VMR9 won't work.

I once had the same issue:

Have you checkt that your codec is really used? use graphedit to check.
I my case for some reasons the wrong codec was used, based on the codecs merrit settings.
Correcting the merrits lead to use the correct codec, and vmr9 worked again.

    cheers

How much ram are you assigning to the video card in the bios?

    Kev
I got 256MB assigned to it. But I reinstalled windows yesterday and now it is working. Don't know what have caused it since i use the same versions of everything on drivers/codecs as before but atleast now it is working again. :)

I hate to bring up an old thread but I can't figure out how to enable EVR in vista sp1 on Media Portal RC1. I don't see it listed as a possible renderer when I go to the Movies -> Movie Player, under MP configuration. I need to enable EVR in order to get my DXVA working ( hardware acceleration ) on all my mkv files. Thanks!

Well I figured out how to enable it, but apparently Media Portal gets very skippy even though I've confirmed 100% that DXVA and hardware acceleration is working. WMP11/MPC-HC all work with Hardware Accel as well but don't get the skipping problem that media portal does. I assume this is due to the early development stages and that EVR just doesn't work great in MP?

I installed ati catalyst 9.1 drivers under Vista 64 bit and have this same problem. VMR9 no longer shows movies, just black where the movie should be. Under catalyst 8.12 it works fine.

I don't want to use EVR, because VMR9 gives me the smoothest playback.

I'm having the same issue, I have the ATI HD3200 on board graphics and I have been getting occassional screen tear in the top 10% of the screen. I have read that switching back to VMR9 will fix this, but I get black screen and no sound. Has anyone a resolution for this yet?
