hello everyone!
i'm new here and i have a question before i install MediaPortal.
say i have a video file with a subtitle file in the same folder (and no other files besides them) ,
does media portal "knows" to open the subtitle file with the chosen video file, even tough the name are different?

and if not, is there any plugins that does that?

i tried looking in the forums and couldn't find anything.

thank you, david.

    Hi,
The names need to be the same, for .avi's you can use "MyMovie.english.srt" & another one with "MyMovie.MyLanguage.srt", they will show up as English & MyLanguage in sub selection.
For mkv's it is best to integrate subs in container.

    Regards
    Roy

so there is no way that it can open a .mkv file like "myMovie.mkv" and a subtitle file "someOtherName.srt"?
there arent any plugins that do it?

You can open any subtitle with the ffdshow subs filter through video decoder configuration, but it's a hassle to do that for every movie. Faster to rename when you download subs

It takes less than 5 minutes to merge .mkv with .srt subtitle to a new .mkv with subtitle embedded, then you never have to worry about the subtitle for this movie any more.

    Cheers,

    use this
    MKVTOOLNIX
