HI all,

I have a Nvida N6200 video card set to output at 720x576 at 50Hz interlaced. The Nvida control panel reports that the card is outputting at 50Hz as well.

This is the frustrating bit. In MP, I have tried all the de-interlacing option's from none to best and I still get tearing on my CRT. I am from Australia, so we use PAL at 50Hz interlaced.

Have tried powerstrip, but either I'm doing something wrong or its not working properly. Even so, I shoudn't have to use powerstrip as I can output at 50Hz from the card, unlike ATI cards.

HELLLLPPP.......I can't stand to see the screen tearing when there is fast moving motion. This problem did not occur when using this video card under vista media center.

Thanks in advance.

I am actually trying to watch live TV. The australian open is on and watching the stuttering and sharp tearing when play is on is doing my head in.

Sorry, I misread your questions. Its SD content, but the same happens with HD content.

Probably should have also asked up front.. what codecs are you using? I imagine that a 6200 would struggle with HD content.. but fine with SD. Have you tried a CPU based codec?

Ok, I think I might have fixed it. Under the MP configuration advanced settings, there is a tab for the MPV decoder. If I set the interlace mode there I finally get a smoother image. Makes me wonder why I have to set it there to fix the problem. I was previoulsy trying to achieve the same effect under the TV settings area with no success.

can you explain in a bit more detail exactly what you have set exactly where and how you think it improved.

I am working on the same problem i.e. tearing.

I have so far not changed any interlace settings at all from the defaults that are set at installation. no clue where to start. is tearing even an interlace caused problem - I'm not sure?

I think my ati card can output 50hz interlaced (it has a "25i" hz option) but I don't see any difference using this versus using 50hz refresh rate option.

I use the PowerDVD 8 filters for watching PAL 50Hz here in Denmark with really nice picture...but then again, I have an ATI onboard graphics, which after all is different from your Nvidia (doh).

This is what I have found out. When using the MPV decoder I still had tearing even when the video card was outputting at 50Hz. I could not figure it out.

then I installed PowerDVD and by chance, I started using the Cyberlink decoder for TV and 'presto', the output was crystal clear and no tearing. I confirmed this by using the leadtek decoder that came with my TV card as well.

I think the MPV decoder has problems with 50Hz output, even when you select de-interlace as the method of outputing to TV. It must default to 60Hz.

Try installing another MPEG2 decoder and use that as the TV default.

just to be sure we are talking about the same thing.

I do not see "combing" which is what I think of as a classic interlacing related artifact (a la http://neuron2.net/LVG/inthead.jpg)

What I do get is what I'd call tear - the whole picture looks nice most of the time, but for maybe half a second, a horizontal split appears about 1/3 down from the top, with the part above and the part below appearing to be shifted horizontally with respect to each other, by so many pixels that it looks awful. Can't find a reference picture but I think its this Screen tearing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    On both SD and HD.

how do I get rid of that? I'm using cyberlink pdvd8 decoders for SD and HD. I have all the deinterlace-related options left at default, there are so many do not know where to start. ATI card is set at 50hz (TV confirms it receives at 50HZ), and I am in uk so its 50hz interlaced pal tv.

I have seen talk of vsync but don't know where to set that?

    any help appreciated.

I get tearing if I turn hardware acceleration off. I was experimenting with turning it off when I had picture hanging problems and somebody said the acceleration may be causing it. But I had terrible tearing so turned it back on.

Is yours on or off? I can't remember exactly where the setting is (I'm at work), but I think it's probably under "Video Rendering Settings" or something similar in the config (needs to be in advanced mode to see that setting I think).
