Yesterday I had an incident trying to install Windows Vista RC1 on another harddrive on my system. This resulted in me not being able to boot into Windows MCE. I managed to solve the problem after a while and all seemed fine until I tried to run MP. I mention this although I cannot see how it can be related. My Windows MCE-installation was as far as I can tell unaffected by my boot-problems.

HOWEVER - this is my MP-problem: I cannot start MediaPortal or Setup!!!
When I try starting setup I get the error message: "Failed to locate assembly 'System.service, Version 2.0.0....etc etc". (the same error message is in the error log below). And when I try to run MP all it shuts down after showing the splash screen for 1 second. I've posted the errorlog below and there is clearly a problem. I just don't understand what!

PLEASE HELP!

I have tried a clean install and still have the same problem.

Thank you for your quick reply! I think you are on to something. NET 2.0 is in the list of installed programs but when I try removing it I get a strange pop up-window saying: "Install.res.????.dll" with an OK-button.
Anybody know what this could be? A virus?

I'll try fixing .net now and let you know what happened.

That was it! .NET was screwed up somehow and I had to use a clean-up tool to get rid of it. After re-installing .NET MP works fine again.
I don't know how Vista could have done this but you never now...the ways of a new OS are unknown to most men. (famous proverb)
