[Patch] Embedded Cover Art Extraction (1 Viewer)

Just uploaded to sourceforge:

This patch adds an option to the music database update section in
configuration.exe to extract album cover art images that are embedded
in music files and generate the corresponding album thumbnail in the
thumbnail cache.

Very useful for those of us that store the images only in the mp3 files.


Caveats:

1. Only works for mp3 as I don't have access to other formats with
embedded images.

2. For mp3 files will blindly use the first image frame encountered in the
id3v2 header.

My Music is assorted with "folder.jpg" cover art. Will that be extracted, too?

Yes. The routine only looks inside the mp3 files if there is no folder.jpg.

Just installed the latest CVS snapshot and found the new checkbox

Unfortunately it does not speed up the browsing through my albums. I have 120 albums in one directory, all of them assorted with proper subfolders and cover art via folder.jpg. Now, when I open music in MP I can browse through the first 10 albums with high speed, after that it's 1 album / second.

When turning off all the cover art the browsing works super fast again :!: :?:

Any suggestions, except turning off cover art :wink:

By turning off the cover art I meant, that I deleted all the "folder.jpg" from the sub directories. I think, that the patch actually stores the cover art information in the database, but somehow MP still checks or loads them from the originating source...

Tagged my mp3s 100% perfect id1 & id2 with "thegodfather" and put the coverart from allmusic in it..
