Been testing powerscheduling to get it working for me and it works fine if i set a record and then go to home page of media portal and choose shutdown - sleep

pc wakes up fine

However if I put the computer to sleep through the PC's power button or through the remote then it wont wake up

Is this expected behaviour that only when sleeping through media portal that it will wake up? Because I am thinking maybe when you sleep through mediaportal it sets up the wake up time etc but I guess if you sleep through the PC power button Media Portal closes and doesnt get to set the wake up timer or something?

Thanks!

    Hi clone_tk422,

I believe you answered your own question :)

In order for your HTPC to wake up for the next event/recording/etc ut should put itself to sleep. If you"force" it to sleep there won't be any wake-upevent shceduled.

    Thanks,

If thats the case good to know.

Just have to re-teach the wife and kids now to only put the computer to sleep using the button from the home page and not use the power button on the pc or the remote

    EDIT:

On Second thought, is there anyway in vista to call some sort of batch file when you call for the sleep command so that it could run the sleep command that media portal uses to know it needs to wake up?

Why don't you use set the PowerScheduler to shutdown when it has been idle for some time. That should solve your problem. I've got a 5 min timeout on my system.

Yeah cheers thats what I got at the moment but I still have to tell the wife to at least go back to the home page so it idles..

Will it idle if the TV is still turned on, even if youre at the home page?

nope. That's the one thing my housemate never seems to understand. He gets to the home screen, but forgets to press stop as well.
