I have juat bought a new stereo system and it has an SPDIF port so I have tried to link my Media Portal PC to it using the SPDIF lead I already have. No sound is coming through and haveing now read the manual (!) it tells me that it requires sound in a PCM format.

I am not to clear on what the PCM format is, but is there an option in Media Portal to output PCM and if I do that, will I still get sound from my TV speakers that the PC is connected to as standard?

My system is:
Abit NF7 using on board audio.
Athlon XP2200
512Mb Ram
NVidia 5200

Don't care about PCM or AC3 protocols - just make sure your soundcard's S/PDIF mixer is enabled. Then open MP's configuration, make sure MPA is checked for audio codec and tick the "use S/PDIF" checkboxes in MPA's directshow filter configuration.
