I was thinking of purchasing this USD Freeview HD USB stick and was wondering if it would work with media portal

PCTV DVB-T2 290e Nanostick HD TV Tuner: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

To be honest I have not yet installed/used media portal but will be as soon as I can get the proper tv USB stick so I can get HD freeview.

As a side question.... does media portal take care of the recording process as I can see the software that comes wih the stick isn't suppose to be very good

Thanks very much
Steve

I'm testing a 290e at the moment and hope to put into a new singleseat build this weekend.

What I will say, is that so far getting the codecs right to actually watch the HD channels in Mediaportal is a right pain, but it does work... with persistence. Irrespective of this, recording works well and you can get EPG for the HD channels through WebEPG, which I don't think the bundled software can do.

All I need to do is find a decent mpeg4 editor...

What codecs are needed? I've read that audio is AAC, so I'm assuming this is the issue and not the video side of it?

The DivX audio codec is the only codec we know that supports the specific type of AAC (LATM). It is freely available, but suffers problems when the sample rate changes mid-stream. Video is not a problem.

Hi

I'm waiting for my PCTV T2 290e to arrive. Could you provide any tips/suggestions (other than the scrambled EOG "issues" which is to be expected)?

Also, are you experiencing the similar codec related problems to the BlackGold BGT3620 users?...

I can now see HD channels (BBC One HD, ITV1 HD, Channel 4 HD and BBC HD), but they are jerky, and only giving fragments of sound.

Now I really am stuck. Maybe I need to change the bandwidth figure? Maybe it is hardware or codec problem?
Try using the divx aac decoder. Its how i got the pctv 290e to work.

Hi,

Just downloaded Media Portal after purchasing a DVB-t2 290e over the weekend,

Media portal pics up all the (SD) DVB-t channel's fine, but does'nt seem to recognise the DVB-t2 aspect of the tuner.

Is there a patch or plug-in I need to download to activate T2 support within media portal.

Any pointers appreciated,

Thanks

Steve

What does MP show tuner wise? Have you manually scanned the HD mux as I don't MP will do this by default yet.

MediaPortal is currently showing DvbT, DvbC and RadioWebStream from within the TVserver Set up program.

How would I manually scan for the HD Channels,

Thanks
