Philips SRM 5100: no response after sleep (1 Viewer)

Installed this remote on vista business and it worked out of the box but after resuming the system from sleep I just cannot get it working anymore.
I unplugged it, rebooted, tried the same and another usb port, unchecked it from the remotes in the configuration, rebooted and checked it again, also uninstalled from device manager the ehome device, rebooted and windows detected it again but still no response.
The led in the receiver picks up the signal so it must be something in windows.

Does anyone have a clue what might be wrong?

For those who are curious and for future, similar issues: the batteries were already discharged (fairly new/very few usage) and even though the receiver led was responding to commands and holding the remote withing 0,5m distance, nothing was happening.
Go figure....
