Have been trying to optimise video quality of late.
I'm using an ATI Radeon 4550 card connected by HDMI to an 8th gen pioneer running at 1920x1080p.
TV set has more settings than is reasonable and of course there are further picture settings in CCC and in MP and in codecs themselves. So plenty of room for endless tweaking etc.
Noticed something which might be of use to others.
If using win XP and thus VRM9 then there is a setting in MP codecs and renderer/video renderer which has a big affect on PQ.
The above dialog has a setting for filtering mode and Guassian Quad is recommended. So much so it eaven says so in the dialog.
Try ignoring the recomendation and setting this to NONE.
On my setup this yeilds a massive improvement in PQ. With Guassian Quad filtering set, the picture is blurred and soft at edges and detail is lost. When set to NONE picture is much improved.
Might be worth trying it out. Can easily be reversed if it does not improve picture.
Interesting if anyone else sees the same effect.
