I was getting posterization when watching live & recorded TV, when I raised a ticket with ATI they directed me to this post.

I'm using the ATI 7.9 drivers with hotfix 1, but had the same issue with 7.8 & 7.7.

Changing from automatic interlacing to adaptive interlacing fixed it for me.

You can see the before and after results in the attached screenshots.

Hope this helps others.

Now just to fix my jerky menu after watching live tv issue.

Hoi Cheezey

I would be interested in your link, as I have the same problem. When I click on it, I get "Your support portal session has expired due to inactivity.."

Can you give us the link that you got from ATI-Support?

Thanks

Bruno

You probably need to register on http://support.ati.com

Here's the text of the article though ...

737-29811: Radeon HD 2xxx Series - Posterization while playing back MPEG-2 file with default deinterlacing mode in CCC

The information in this article applies to the following configuration(s):

* Catalyst Display Driver 7.9
* Radeon™ HD2900 series
* Radeon™ HD2600 series
* Radeon™ HD2400 series
* Windows Vista 32-bit Edition
* Windows Vista 64-bit Edition
* Windows XP Professional
* Windows XP Home Edition
* Windows XP Media Center Edition
* Windows XP Professional x64 Edition

Symptoms:
Playing back an MPEG-2 files with default deinterlacing settings in Catalyst Control Center causes "Posterization".

Other video formats or graphics cards might also be affected.

Solution:
Currently there is no solution.

Workaround:
In Catalyst Contraol Center / Avivo Video / Basic Quality:

1. Remove the checkmark "Use automatic deinterlacing"
2. Change the default deinterlacing mode "ADAPTIVE" to "BOB" or "WEAVE" by moving the slide bar one or two notches to left.

ATI Engineering has been advised of this issue and is investigating. Any updates will be published when they become available.

I tried BOB & WEAVE but ADAPTIVE seemed to give the best result.

I will watch future drivers or hotfixes for a fix for this.
