If you have the following remote:
Pinnacle System
Pinnacle Remote Kit for MCE Certified for Vista USB 2.0 Interface
Newegg.com - Pinnacle Remote Kit for MCE Certified for Vista USB 2.0 Interface - Retail

After searching and trying everything for the last few weeks to get all of the buttons on this remote to work I finally found a solution. I tried the MCE Replacement Drivers, IRServerSuite, and a 1,000 different tweaks to Media Portal and I couldn't get anything to work. Here is the solution that worked for me.

  • Although to me it doesn't make sense, under the Settings -> Remote -> Microsoft MCE, make sure the "Use Microsoft MCE Remote Or Keyboard" is unchecked.
  • Go to the General HID Tab and check "Use General HID Device".

For some reason now virtually every button on my remote is working perfectly. I hope this help some of you that were having the same issues that I was having.

Edit * I am using Windows XP Pro.

Personally, would look in device manager to see what the remote is recognised as, if HID, then do above.

    Glad you got it sorted.

The only button that was not working by default is the "i" button. I would really like to set this button to act as the right click. This would allow me to download IMDB info, or change subtitle language, etc. Do you by chance know if there is any way via media portal to record the key pressed and assign this function utilizing the General HID Device?

    Thank you in advance.

    Info = F3 button AFAIK.

It's should tell you in MP config\general\keyboard, recording at moment, so do not want to disturb by opening config to check.

First of all....Thank you for your time....it is appreciated :D

You are correct. Info = F3

When I go into configure\remote\general HID\Mapping.....There are many buttons listed. Many I don't have and I am sure this is b/c this is just a general setting. From here how would I set the "I" button on my remote to pass F3? Can that be done?

There is no rush at all for the answer to this question. If possible, just let me know when you have time.

    Thank you again.

I don't know if someone got a solution for this but I configured the Record button with the Info function.

So go to configure\remote\general HID\Mapping and select 48 MediaRecord. Then change "Condition" = Fullscreen and Action = Show OSD. Add new Condition "No Condition" with Action = Context Menu.

I tried "7 brouwserHome", "27 Help" and "28 Find" but none of them reacted on the Info button.
