Hey guys - I'm trying to play a mkv file I made from one of my DVDs in MP.

The .mkv file is a container and holds all the audio streams and subtitles etc. How do I select the default stream I want always want to play for this file (ie. I dont have 5.1 so I want to select the stereo stream). I currently have no sound because the 5.1 stream is playing. The video plays fine, just no sound.

I dont have the problem with the subtitles displaying yet, although I would hope that when people are speaking Vampire that the English forced subtitles will appear. In the event they are in Spanish, how would I select which subtitle stream I want (same principle as the audio selection).

Thanks.:D

UPDATE: I think this has something to do with an AC3 filter because I just tried a file without DTS and just AC3, and it didnt work either. There is picture, but no sound. When I tried this file in PowerDVD however, it worked. Any idea whats going on?

Summary:
File 1: DTS+AC3+AVC1 file = picture in MP with no sound, and picture in PowerDVD with no sound
File 2: AC3 + AVC1 = picture in MP with no sound, and picture in PowerDVD with sound

Thanks.:D

UPDATE: Cool. I disabled AC3 in FFDShow and let PowerDVD decode it. Its working now. However, I'm back to square 1 re: the multiple audio steam issue. How do I select AC3 as a default sound stream for files that contain both AC3/DTS.

Thanks.

UPDATE: The AC3 change above now allows me to right click on Haali Media Splitter tray icon, and select which audio stream I want, which is a workaround. But if I want to load the video from MediaPortal, I'm not at my PC to change the audio stream. Anyway to setup defaults so that MediaPortal knows what steam to play (ie. never play DTS, if AC3 is available play it before MP3, if not, play MP3 etc). THANKS!

you can choose default audio language, but not default audio stream. (you can do this in TV eg. prefer AC3, but not in videos section)
You should use SAF, then enable the ffdshow audio mixer to downmix everything to stereo.

While video is playing press L to change subtitles and press A to change audio stream.
