I have to say I am very impressed with how Media Portal has developed over the last year! I really want to move from Nero Home to Media Portal as the I/F, extendibility, etc is far better & while not huge I'm keen to donate $50 to the team if I can get the following Video file playing problems sorted:

1) MPEG / DTS files – Major Issue: I get not sound over S/PDIF when playing these files, and since half my Music Videos are DTS this is a major issue – see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?p=76120

2) Playing Video Clips like Music Tracks – Medium Issue: Having to create playlists to play all Video files in a folder is an awkward workaround when having the same functionality as in the Music section would be perfect – see https://forum.team-mediaportal.com/showthread.php?t=10725

Thanks
Nathan

You shouldn't make the donation dependant on answers here, that's not really nice. Make it dependant on your feeling, if you want or not.

About SPDIF: There are various ways. I'll describe how I have it set up.
Get latest ffdshow and disable all audio decoders (in case you don't need the other decoders) but AC3 & DTS. In ffdshow's audio config set AC3 and DTS to SPDIF, see attached image.

About your second concern... Might come, but such is not in the works atm.

So you're gonna donate $25 now? :D

I believe there was a music videos plugin floating around that might help you with the second point? And I think I saw another person doing random video queuing in a plugin as well. Have a look/search around and see if these fit your needs.

Thanks mPod - did not want to offend but keen to support a good product that I would use. I've tried the suggestion but still the same result:
DVD's = AC3 + DTS
MPEG Files = AC3 but no DTS.

Thanks also Jawbroken - I've been through the downloads and did not see anything so will try some searches.

This might help? I am not sure exactly what you want and exactly what the random videos plugin does, but it does seem to generate playlists on the fly from certain criteria, so it might be helpful.

What exactly do you want to do with this functionality?Maybe that would help with identifying if there is anything that currently meets your needs.

Hope that is helpful.

Thanks JB - but not quite it, I've ripped my Music DVD's to disk by Chapter (eg like ripping the CD by track). As with with the Music section, I'd like the simplicity of going to Video section, selecting the first file in the folder and having MP play them all in order with the Skip / Repeat function working without setting up playlists (though the link to the other post above descrives a work around for now).

MPEG & DTS... Weird combination when not being played from DVD. Can't tell if (or how) that works, that's not a standard (defined) mux (iirc). I don't have such files. There was a thread around here on the forums, but I didn't follow it, cause I don't have those weird rips. Of course we all own original DVDs only... :D

    What if there were an option in keys and sounds setting to map a key to more than one action?

    The request would than be "implemented" by maping Y to
    Y = add to playlist.
    F1 = show playlist.
    (Enter = play first video file.)

    ?? possible ??

    Hi,

    1) Is either a filter merit or filter setup issue. Probably the MPEG2 audio decoder filter with the highest merit isn't configured to do AC3/DTS passthrough? Get GraphEdit, start the playback of such a movie and post a screenshot so we can see what filters are being used. Usually for .avi files you'll need to install ffdshow or ac3filter in order to get AC3/DTS passthrough to work with those.

    2) IMHO creating a dynamic playlist (open context menu for a directory containing your music videos, choosing "add to playlist", goto playlist (shuffle) and start playback) is the best way to do this. I use this all the time for my music videos on disk.

    Kind regards,
    Michel
