    Just this two plugins increase my startup time by 2 minutes (moving pictures) and 45 secs (tvseries)

    do you setups take so long?

    :D

    For large collections on a network drive startup time can be a little bit slow sometimes. It's basically verifying your collection and figuring out whats online, whats not, what files have been deleted, what artwork is missing, stuff like that. If you have your movies on a network drive this process can take some time. Also it spends a little bit of time verifying the integrity of the database.

    In the future we may see what we can do to run some of these steps in the background.

    thanks fforde, so 2 minutes is ok?

    just thought of a suggestion, maybe instead of blocking mp from continue starting, just do the basic checks, and then do the rest in the background.

    if user tries to access moving pictures before the "long checkings" have ended, just display a popup saying to wait.

    it would make things much better as not always u boot to use moving pictures.

    :D and i hope u keep it in mind.

    btw, with the new noise filter line we discussed in irc, parsing of my collection is working so much better !!!

    2 minutes seems like a long time, but like I said if you have a large collection of movies on a network drive, this startup time could seem plausible. And yeah, I'd like to move some of this stuff into background processing, but we have to take things one step at a time. :p

    so i guess its not only a network issue but the client setup.

    setup1) intel 2,4gb dual core, 4gb, 1gb network, windows 7 64bits (working laptop) ==> +-3minutes
    setup2) amd 1,4gb single core, 256mb, 100mb network, windows xp pro (only mp) ==> 50 seconds

    same plugins, same setup.

    so i guess its not only a moving pictures problem :p
