This is a plugin for all those times when people ask "is there anything on tonight?" / "What shall we watch?"

I was going to create this plugin myself, but I doubt I'll have the time - So instead of leaving it, I thought i'd see if anyone else wanted to take up the challenge.

Basically its a plugin that just lists all the films showing "Today" or "Tonight". Tonight being a user configurable time period.

    • The plugin would query the Database and list all items today or tonght in the Genre "Film".
    • Multiples of the same version could be combined, and once selected it could show you which channels/times its on.
    • When selecting a film, it can act similarly to the TV EPG - either watch now if its currently on, or otherwise let you select to be alerted, or to record the program.
    • I can also imagine intergrating IMDB with this to get a better synopsys/review of the film
    • Once thats done you could bring in all the fancy stuff - FanArt/DVD Cover/Film poster etc
    • Getting carried away now, but a background process could grap IMDB and covers for everything, there would be loads of info available then - and you could select films by Movie Poster/DVD Cover...

So - firstly - is anyone othe than me interested in this?

Are there any devs that could develop this?

If not then i'll try and find the time to do it myself! But if someone could point me in the direction of some sample code for accessing the MP database, that would be great!

I think this was one of the functions of 4TheRecord, it suggested things you liked from previous recordings.
as never got that far, testing wise, do not know how successful its fuzzy logic got with this.

I didnt intend to do anything as clever as that!

All i'll be doing is listing all the programs in the Genre "Film" that are on "today"/"tonight". So then its possible to see all the films on all channels for the evening.

I guess i'll make it possible to specify which channels to search for films too, otherwise for some people with hundreds of channels it could be a bit of a long list!

Using For The Record it would indeed be very easy to create a "suggestions" schedule to show you what films are upcoming which may be interesting to you.

For example: with a certain actor, or with a certain keyword in the description. You can also select a list of channels so you won't be notified of movies on channels you never watch, or can't receive due to scrambling e.g.

For The Record just seems like a bit of an overkill. I'll check it out, but quite tempted to work on a simpler more focused plugin :) Need a reason to practice C# too!

    hah!

Well I need to learn C# (I program other languages by day), but every time I start to learn I get distracted. So it would do me good to have a project! Thing is, after spending all day programming, I don't really want to do more when I get home!!
