Possible to use different decoder for different cards/channe (1 Viewer)

Hey, i have two cards in my htpc atm

DNTV Live Pro!, and
Twinhan sat-ci

I have a few satelite channels (on the twinhan tuner (dvb-s)) that require the intervideo audio codec, as i'm yet to find any other codec. However, using this same codec, causes my DNTV Live Pro! (dvb-t) to lose audio after about 5-10 mins of playing on the same channel. I can change channel and come back to it, and the audio is fixed.

Is it possible to tell it to use a different decoder for different cards, or even to tell it to use different decoders for different channels?

Cheers

Why? This sounds like a problem that should be solved first....

Which may be related to the problem above....one thing you might try, is to set the audio renderer for TV to be the "Default DirectSound Device".

For some odd reason, this can only be done from within MediaPortal / Settings (it is not visible within Configuration)... :?
I am not sure what it defaults to, but it won't hurt to try setting this correctly anyway.

    Not to my knowledge.

    Thanks for your reply

Why i need to use the intervideo codec:

I was using GB-PVR until now, and a problem i had, was one set of satellite channels (about 10 channels on the same transponder) had 'chipmunk' audio. Now, after ages of searching, and trying different codecs, the Intervideo codec is the only codec that played the audio properly. Among the ones i've tried, were ac3, gl mpeg?, Cyberlink, and a few others. None of them worked properly, some would have chipmunk sound, whilst others had no sound at all. The intervideo codec gave me proper normal sound :)

Came to MP, and whatever the default codec was, gave me no sound on these channels. So i put it to intervideo, and it worked again.

Ok, will try that. I did try that on GB-PVR, and that didn't work either. I'll try it in MP just to make sure. The DNTV Live Pro, and all the channels scanned on it, work with all the codecs. However with intervideo, i lose my audio after a few minutes. I get good normal sound however using other codecs.

What sound card/sound chip are you using, and what audio decoders have you already tried?

I assume that the video is playing fine on all these channels?

Do you get the same behaviour with a recorded TV program from one of these troublesome channels?

im using the onboard sound... i have no other choice as the mobo has only got 3 pci slots and all three are in use. (two tuners and a wireless card). I think it's a c-audio off the top of my head.

ac3, gl mpeg?, Cyberlink and intervideo i've used. None worked.

    Yup video is fine :)

Do you mean, to record one of the channels that get the funny audio, play it back, and see if it still plays back funny?

Yes - this might give us a clue as to the cause of the "funny audio".

Also, I assume you are using the analog outputs from your sound chip, rather than the S/PDIF output to an external decoder?

    yup using the analogue outputs.

Recording it comes back funny too.

I think these guys just use a weird ass codec. There probably is another codec that can play it, i just haven't discovered it yet.

Can someone please list a few other ones that may work?

    Cheers

I know zilch about DVB-S, so I could be way off track here....but I would assume that the audio is encoded as MPEG2 or AC3 - the same as DVB-T or DVB-C.

Also, as you are having audio problems with DVB-T as well, then I don't think the problem is audio decoder related. My guess is that it is the audio chip or its driver - have you installed the latest audio chip drivers and the latest motherboard BIOS?

Also, you might try enabling S/PDIF passthrough - I know you are not using it, but some users have found that it solves weird audio problems, as discussed here..

To minimise the number of variables, use only the CyberLink PowerDVD 6 video and audio decoders (or the InterVideo ones, if you prefer), and try the things I have suggested above. Also, try the different options of audio renderers, too.

    Good luck.... :)
