Either you do not have +5 vstb from the motherboard, which powers usually your usb 0\1 sockets (check motherboard manual for this), there usually needs a jumper moving, which the instructions will be able to tell you.
So if you are using a remote make sure it is plugged into one of those usb sockets.
Try the MCE standby tool found here first though, it does need to be installed for the best effect.

Hi. I recently upgraded my home cinema AVR which also meant changed from sending audio from my HTPC as 5.1 using optical to 7.1...
