    Hello

I have searched the forum and read the wiki manual but I cannt find the answer to my question.

My question is if I enable the power scheduler for the TV server, and there is no TV program being recorded and mediaportal is not running, but I am doing something else like playing a game or browsing the internet will the power scheduler plugin try and shut down the PC? Or does it class being idle as not having an input to the PC from a user? Does MediaPortal have to be open for the server power scheduler to work?

Also does a remote client send keep alive packets to the server (so that it is possible to use the network monitor feature). Or would it be the case that if the client stopped streaming data for a set amount of time the server would take it that it is idle and shut down - for example if a video has finished streaming and I do not start another video for over 5 minutes (i.e. no network traffic), the server has a shutdown timer of 5 minutes inicating that it is idle and therefore shuts down? I know the manual says this is not specifically supported but I am not 100% sure how this plugin works.

    Thanks

    Hi there ajrstoke,

Here's my understanding of how things work:

    1. The PowerScheduler settings within TV-Server are effectively independent of the front-end client, so if the TV-Server determines that everything is "idle" as far as it's concerned, and it's OK to standby, then it will go into standby

    2. In the TV-Server PowerScheduler settings, you can configure a list of "exception" processes that will stop TV-Server from putting the PC into standby. For example, if you added your browser's executable, or the executable for whatever game you want to play, then TV-Server will not go into standby if those processes are running (even if it thinks everything is OK for a standby)

    3. I can't answer specifically about when you have network clients, but I'm imagine it would work essentially the same as a single-seat installation - that is, if the front end client is not specifically streaming anything from the TV-Server, then the TV-Server will consider itself "idle" (well, as long as it's not recording something)

    4. For my own setup, I have just a single-seat installation and I have the TV-Server PowerScheduler configured only. If I'm using MediaPortal (eg. watching TV or a previously recorded show) then it doesn't go into standby. Once I stop live TV or a recording, then after the configured time (15 minutes in my case) the PC will go into standby

Others may be able to give more info on the network client side of things.

    Cheers,
    Craig

I too would appreciate some clarification on how this is meant to work. I have a problem with MP becoming unresponsive and I believe it's caused by powerscheduler as this is the last thing I see in the log. But I'm unsure as to how I should set the client plugin.
