in my very personal opinion, there is just one pro.and this is that linux is "free".but for someone who has literally never touched linux before, getting just the basic playback of "all" common media to go, and tv-cards to work on linux is like "Mission Impossible".if MediaPortal is targeted for geeks, then linux based HTPC's are targeted for "uber-nasa-rocket-scientists".at least this is what i encountered when trying to get applications like MythTV to work.
