Hi,

I've got three individual digital tuners - I'm wondering if there's any point in preloading more than one tuner? I have my highest priority tuner set to preload - what happens if I set the others to preload? Will they all preload the same channel? That would be pretty pointless wouldn't it, because when changing the channel they'd have to build a new graph for the new channel, wouldn't they?

Perhaps I'm showing my ignorance, I'm not really sure what's going on behind the scenes, but I assume it just preloads a graph for the last channel tuned, making having more than one tuner preloaded unnecessary?

Perhaps it would be possible to assign what gets preloaded on which tuner - ie, 80% of my TV viewing is on two channels; if I could preload one channel on one tuner and the other channel on the other tuner, then channel changes between them would be quicker, wouldn't they??

Any advice would be great! :D

Any developer care to comment on whether it's worthwhile to preload more than one tuner or not???

preloading does not tune to a channel, but builds the graph before. when the card is used the first time this is (maybe some seconds) faster.

I preload both of my cards

So it sets up what codecs are used in advance, is that it?
But then how can a card be preloaded when different codecs are used for SD and HD?
    Both channels use different graphs.
(to be clear on this, building a graph translates to setting up the codec sequence, right?)

morpheus_xx talks about the serverside graph being preloaded .

so your clientside graph (video & audio codecs) are not being preloaded, if this was what u thought ?

It does indeed speed up things. But only the first tune on the card in question. The following channel tunes will be as fast as if preloading was disabled.
The server graph is kept alive through the complete life cyclus of tvserver.exe.

Maybe its being disposed and recreated on suspend/resume (but im not too sure here.-)

    Hi,

I saw that morpheus_xx preloads both cards.
I have 2 Technotrend TV-Cards, the first with highest priority without CI and the second with lower priority with CI. When activating the preload function for both cards, I get the "unknown error" or "unable to start graph" message.

When I activate the preload function of the second card with CI, everything works fine. When I deactivate the function, I get often the message "unknown error" when starting pay tv programs.

    AW: Preloading TV Cards

except for Twinhan(and compatible) with CAM enabled, the graphs of all cards are stopped and disposed on suspend, and rebuilt on resume (AFAIK)

If you're preloading cards then you may need to also increase the "delay before TV Server detects cards" (wiki) to give the tuner drivers a chance to initialise. Attempting to detect CAMs etc. before the driver is ready will cause problems...

may i ask if there is a reason to dont' stop card before standby, i think that is why i'm fighting from ages with a 2x technisat hd2 and BSOD after resume, the driver that causes the BSOD is the technisat driver (compatible twinhan).

If there isn't any reason there is a way that i can manage to stop card before standby ?

    thank you
