Hi.
Is there a way to change the series pretty names permanently?
Up to now the changes will be overwritten every time an update is running. That's annoying.
Sometimes (really often) the localized Series names on thetvdb are not the way, they should be...
E.g.:
In German the Star Trek shows are called like this: "Raumschiff Enterprise" (TOS), "Raumschiff Enterprise - Das nächste Jahrhundert" (TNG), "Star Trek Deep Space 9" (DS9), "Star Trek Raumschiff Voyager" (VOY) and Startrek Enterprise (ENT). So I havn't all StarTrek shows together but I want to.... If I change the pretty name they will be together until the next online update only... :(

This is just a sample (there are lot more shows not named the way I like). Hope someone knows how to fix this...

Use the replacement string option, and make it run "before" the Regular Expressions are used. So just create a simple replacement string rule that turns "Raumschiff Enterprise" into "Star Trek", and "Raumschiff Enterprise - Das nächste Jahrhundert" into "Star Trek: The Next Generation", etc. Then you can keep your filenames the way they are, but MP-TVSeries will then ignore those German titles and use the English replacement names instead.

    AW: Pretty Names permanently editable?

    Hi.
    Many thanks, it works.
On this part of the game I would have never been searching for a solution.

    Hi.
    Thought that works but didn't..:(
A few days it seems all ok, but now it's back to the old situation again. I've edit the string replacements, delete and create new, nothing works...

Did someone know another solution? Or can this be added to the next release? Something like a checkbox "don't update pretty name from online database"...

I have similar problem, but i think better would be if we can set set diff. language for series name and episode name and diff. for descriptions. So the series and episodes names would be in say English and theirs descriptions in say Czech or anything else. Maybe there could be possible to set two lang. for descriptions, if they are not available in czech then use english, because some of them only have english ones. Would be possible to implement that?

MP-TVSeries is mainly build around thetvdb.com, which is in English. So you would have to adjust all your non-English names to become English, so that they all match to the same English title. That is why I suggested you use the string replacements so your German titled filenames would still be recognized.

If you want German titles to show, you will have to find a German based website that can provide the information that MP-TVSeries needs in the same format that thetvdb.com provides and adjust the mirror link in configuration. Otherwise each time MP-TVSeries queries thetvdb.com for updates it will be provided English information that it will use to update all the fields, including the pretty name. I guess you can modify the C# source code to avoid an update to the pretty name after it has been given a manual override, but that's outside my expertise. You can submit this as a suggestion to the Google SVN MP-TVSeries project otherwise, to allow this to be an extra option.

You could mess around with trying to use Google Translate for this. Because Google Translation of thetvdb.com does show all the information in German. But it seems Google has removed the IP based translator view that removes the Google frame, and from what I can see it breaks the thetvdb.com search forms, so not sure if MP-TVSeries would be able to use it.

    I've add an enhancement request.

TheTVDB is multilingual, not only English, so there's no problem of using German (or other) language file names. The file names (or episodes names) are not the thing, it's the name of the show stored on thetvdb.com that causes the problems.

The trouble is because some (lots of) localised names of TVShows are changing in time. In 1967 Star Trek was named "Raumschiff Enterprise" in Germany. As there was no other Star Trek shows these days, this was ok. But with upcoming Deep Space 9 in the 90' the name structure didn't work anymore. As there was no spacecraft (= Raumschiff in German) named "Enterprise" around DS9 a naming similar to "Raumschiff Enterprise Deep Space 9" didn't make much sense.

Also "Star Trek TOS" is fairly wide used in Germany, the "early" Name "Raumschiff Enterprise" is still the "official" one. It would be simple to change the name on thetvdb.com. But I don't know what's up to other users out there, so I want a solution to change the Name of the show (or have a custom sort field...) local.

In my opinion the greatest disadvantage of MPTVSeries is the total dependence on a single source. Especially as thetvdb.com is down quite often... So many times I was forced to reload all the artwork after a fresh Install of MePo. Gigs and Gigs of useless traffic, just from a single user...
