Most of my Videos i try to watch with the internal MP player look like this:
mediaportal.jpg

I have no problems playing the videos in WMP11, MPC and vlc. The only player showing this behavior is the MP player.
I experienced that most of the problematic files are h264 and divx files. But there are also DivX an H264 files that play well in MP.

Any suggestions?

same problem

I'm experiencing the same problem, with that same intel mobile 965 GPU. You're using FFDShow I assume? Using the FFDShow grab function results in a normal screen capture, but within media portal the video displays same as your image attachment above.

I found that using the media portal standalone filters works for the most part, and have been running with that instead for the past month or so, but am now getting an "unable to play" error on a certain few DivX files which has led me back to searching for why MP and FFDShow won't play nice.

Here's hoping someone can help us.

Make sure you have the latest driver for the intel graphics and the latest version of FFDShow

Or you can try the Vista codec pack by shark007 (uninstall all the other filters), this will allow you to switch easily between MPC-HC, FFDShow and the Xvid codecs to see which one behaves best.

I am using the latest Versions of ffdshow and gpu drivers.

So with Vista Codec Pack i can easily switch between ffdshow and other filters?
That sounds very interesting because i really do not want to remove ffdshow completely. I am going to give it a try whent i have some free time.

Been using this for 2+ years, integrates nicely with windows (any version), shark007 is a member of Microsoft network forums, so has been around a long time, and has always something good to say, unlike most codec packs which you have no name to put to (codecs excepted).

I had this exact same problem:
intel mobile 965 graphics, ffdshow tryouts, and media portal.

I had the most recent intel drivers and most recent ffdshow tryouts.

I run media portal fullscreen on the secondary display on my laptop.

    The solution was two things:
    * use the vga and not the svideo output as my secondary display since it gets a higher resolution.
    * use a different resolution and/or a different refresh rate on the secondary display.

i got 1280x1024 at 60hz to work. i'm still testing others.

I am almost certain this is some funky issue with how intel's drivers, ffdshow tryouts, and media portal interact.

The shark 007 codecs didn't solve anything.

I got a second (EVEN BETTER) solution to this problem:

    1. install the official xvid codec.
    1. open up "ffdshow video decoder configuration" (the red square icon).
    2. click the top "Codecs" option on the top left.
    3. on the decoder column next to "Xvid" click the "Xvid" option, and on the drop-down choose "disabled".
    4. Click apply.

Choose "disabled" as needed for any codec with which you have issues. If the video doesn't play, download the actual codec.

This will disable ffdshow from decoding the video, *NOT* the audio.

In my particular case, prior to installing ffdshow, media portal would play video but not audio. this solution fixed everything.

No luck for me unfortunately. The majority of my xvid files play fine in MP as long as I don't decode with FFDShow, but I was hoping to get it functioning as it allows me to play the few files that otherwise give me an "unable to play" error. I read that it's a bug that's been fixed and is slated for release in 1.1, I just didn't want to wait (and wouldn't mind FFDShow doing my upscaling either.) But I can make do -- FFDShow, Mediaportal, and the Intel 965 just don't seem to mix.

You could try playing with the output settings in ffdshow, just try disabling a few and see if it helps, you should be able to do this on the fly with MP in windowed mode and stopping and starting video playback.

Ray, you are one smart fella.

First thing I unchecked was YV12, and lo and behold, a nice clear picture.

Hopefully this will fix the trouble others are having with the Intel 965 as well.

    Thanks a million,
    Ross
