I have a microsoft mce remote european version, but the numbers wont work in mediaportal. I tried everything. Is this a known problem?

I hope to hear something soon.

Kind regards

Does everything else work? This is weird...

If you open notepad and press the numbers, do they show up there?
I'm pretty sure the numbers are regular HID controls, so they should. Unfortunately I'm away at the moment, so can't test this. Hopefully someone else can shed some more light.

I have no issues with the numbers and the "0" for delete is a very handy shortcut.

If someone else can confirm that the numbers work for them in Notepad then this will mean that it's a problem with the remote and not MP.

I know it's possible to teach the remote the TV power and volume commands, but I am pretty sure that you can't teach it the TV numbers, otherwise that could be the cause of your issues.

So all other buttons work ok? I'm stumped here, sorry.

To restore the default remote control settings

1 Press and hold the DVD MENU button and LEFT navigation button at the same time
until the remote control for Media Center PC lights turn off.
    2 Press the OK button.
The remote control for Media Center PC lights blink twice to confirm that the buttons
have been reset. The TV button will have no command assigned to it and the VOL +
and VOL – buttons will adjust the Media Center PC system volume.
If the default settings were not restored, the lights blink quickly four times. To try
again, repeat steps 1 and 2.

    problem with the remote

As per your earlier comment Marcusb the USB receiver presents itself to the operating system as number of different devices, in the case of the digit buttons a keyboard HID. Its either the remote is screwed or a driver issue.

If possible connect the receiver to another computer and try again, then you'll know if its a driver or a hardware issue.

Thanks, I was pretty sure that was the case, but since I had never actually tried that I didn't want to sound too certain ;-)

ikke -I guess a good test then would be to plug the receiver into a different WinXP Pro machine and see if the numbers get any response from notepad on that one.

If yes, then you have a driver issue on your machine.
If no, then you have a remote issue.

    Maybe a stupid reply but...

If I activate the Caps Lock button on my keyboard, it's working. If not, it's not working...

I'm in France and our keyboards are not qwerty but azerty, this is the issue : by default, the keyboard's numbers are not activated, but the symbols are... (like that : &é"'-è_çà )

    europeaan mce remote

What Corve says works. Here in Belgium we use the Azerty keyboard layout. When I use the numbers with my mce remote i get weid things like è§(. When i switch my keyboard layout to Qwerty it all works fine.

Thank you all for helping me.

that's kind of funny in a bad way.
The MS MCE European remote only works for European countries that speak English.

Considering the number of Europeans on this forum, you would think that this would have popped up before.

    Glad it's all working though.
