I have been working on getting this set-up right for a few weeks now. The problem I am having is getting it to auto detect each show when it is recorded. It seem that it has alot to do with how the show is named. I have tried changing how the shows are saved and I still can't get it to work good.

It seem like there should be a default way to name them that should give you the best chance to have it auto detected. Everytime I record a new series to says it can't detect and asks to skip or manual search. It shows up as a show name and then "ep3206351".

If there are any logs that will help you figure out what I have set wrong let me know and I will post them.

Here is how I have them saved right now.

%title%\%title% - S%series%E%episode% - %date% - %name%

There must be a way to set this that will let it pick up most of them automatically?

It may be getting confused with your %date%, try removing that.

Example: 'House/Season 1/House s01e01.avi' will pick them up perfectly. Every time. This works for all shows*. If it's a double episode use House s01e01-02.avi and it will apply it to both episodes in TV Series.

TV series sees . and _ as space aswell, so you don't need to change these.

For shows with numbers in the name and shows with special characters. If they don't work, search for them on Online TV Database - An open directory of television shows for HTPC software and make sure you got the name right. Ex. Chappelles Show will not work, but Chappelle's Show will. This applies to every episode. Ex. Chappelle's Show s01e01.avi.

Obviously many other variants work, but this will be foolproof. I usually use Total Commanders mass renaming feature (mark files, ctrl-m) to quickly rename many episodes.

Thanks for the help. There must be a way to set the TV server to name these in a way that will auto detect them. It sounds like what you are doing is recording the tv show and then renaming it after it is recorded so TV series will reconsize it? Seems like alot of work just to get this plugin to work.

Am I misunderstanding or is that what you are doing.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I don't personally record anything, and really don't know the slightest thing about it. I was just explaining the detection rules TV Series uses, and how I rename my shows that I download (as opposed to record). I assumed the recording function would let you automatically name a show to something like <show name> s<season>e<episode>.<ext>. if it doesn't then you may consider my advice useless :)

Hey Vindii, I have the same problem with my tv-series. I think it might be a problem with the way MP TV erver names the recordings. I have this as my tv naming %Title% %Series% %Episode% and I still get the EP002270 thingy. So I knoww hat you are going through. I have just been renaming them, but I found that it will automatically work for some of the shows I record. For examply king of queens with look like this. King of Queens - EP200770 - 217.ts And this will work automatically. I found out that it is the 217. This means Season 2 episode 17, and TV series picks up on this. I hope this might help you figure something out. Right now I am using a TV renamer, but I still havent figured it all out yet.

This could have something to do with your EPG-data. When I record TV-shows, the EPG-data for "Episode" is usually in the form of absolute numbering (e.g. episode 103) instead of season/episode numbering (e.g. Season 5, episode 3) (Just an example. In a show that has excactly 25 episodes per season, this would be the same episode).
The problem is that there are not a lot of shows on TVDB that has absolute numbering typed in. I have not found a way to do this easily, so I just renames the shows. If this is a show i have been following from the beginning (or it has only reached season 1) then this is fairly easy, although I agree it would be great if all of this could be done automatically.

If the tvshow renamer could translate absolute numbering to Season/episode numbering, it would be great. But this would again need the TVDB to be updated with both Absolute and Season/Episode numbering.

[edit]The stupid thing is that in some series I see in my EPG data that Season/Episode is actually present, but it is just written as part of the description of the show.
I don't know alot about the xmltv-standard, but perhaps there are no tag in XMLTV that is supposed to handle Season/Episode numbering...

I thought this plugin was made specifically for recorded TV. I agree with the last couple of post that it probally has to do with how the TV server is naming the recordings. I still think that there has to be a naming format that TV server can use that will give you the best chance of it auto detecting these.

I don't really want to use this if I have to rename 80% of what I record. There must be someone with some knowledge of how this works that can explain what we are doing wrong.

If this is in fact the problem couldn't I add the absolute number to TVDB and then it should work right? But I suppose that I would have to enter it for every episode also? That would not be fun.

I'll look into this more later. Thanks.
