This is a problem I've always had with MediaPortal. My system runs 24x7 and I like to have MP minimise to tray so I can just press my green windows button on my remote and it pops up. The problem is, unless it has just been opened, (e.g. it has been running for 24 hours), the live TV part is extremely unstable. It sometimes freezes, the guide hangs too, the channels don't change anywhere near realtime.

Does anyone else have this experience? Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'm wondering if it is just a .NET thing. :D

I should add, I run uTorrent (altho typically low load), SQL Server 2008, IRServer. Not much else. In any case, a Core 2 should smoke that stuff particularly when the SQL Server is dedicated to the MP TV Server.

EDIT: Maybe a Hauppauge HVR-2200 issue?

Hello Shivian.

I had similar problems with my system and now these are nearly completely gone.
What i've done is: i replaced my Nvidia graphics card (GT8500) with one with an ATI chipset (HD4350)

Ahh I was curious about my vid card. Was going to upgrade it in a week or two to a fanless HD4xxx. Good to know that worked for someone :D

Also my system is powered on 24x7, but I don't keep MP minimised.
I'd prefer to open and close it when needed; I turn on Mediaportal using the green button on remote and MPTray...

Yes sorry I should have said I use the option "minimize to tray". Unless you are talking about something else?

Yes, I'm talking about something else :)

I launch MP only when needed, and after use I close it (exiting completely, not minimizing to tray). When I need MP again, It' enough to push green button on remote to re-launch it. you need MPtray plugin, which use an exe always running in background (mptray.exe). Its work is to launch MediaPortal when you press green button on remote, just as Windows MCE.

I prefer this solution because MediaPortal uses quite a lot of memory, also miminized in tray.
I've seen you use TVServer, right? So, you just need only tvserver service up and running to record tv shows, not MP.

Ok well the only reason I minimize to tray is so I can use the green windows button to reopen so I'll have a look at that plugin. :D
