I have installed PureVideo. What I read this is supposed to be DirectShow. Still when I play a 720p mpeg2 clip on 30mb it stutters every two seconds. This I tried in WMP. I would really like to get it to work but it seemes not to do any difference. Is there a way to configure PureVideo or do I need something else.

I tried both here and the nvidia forums without helping me...

Or do I got it all mixed up? When playing with Cyberlinks codec or in VLC it works fine, altough my CPU has to work instead. I would like to use the GPU for this... :D

saw this om nvidia homepage:
USING WITH WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER/MEDIA CENTER

Is there a way to get access to the NVIDIA PureVideo Decoder settings or properties?
Yes the properties can be accessed once an MPEG-2 file or DVD has started playing in Windows Media Player or Windows Media Center. Once playback has started, check the Windows taskbar for a new NVIDIA icon that displays the name “NVIDIA Decoders” when your mouse hovers over it. Right mouse click on that icon and select “Decoder Properties.”

WHOOOT? I dont get any new icons anywayz

Also; when I check in WMP File/Properties when playing this clip it says MPV. It lookes like MPV totally taken the control over every other codec. And choosing in the Setup doesnt change anything. This is crazy.

Try Radlight Filter Manager. You can select PureVideo in the list /I think it's under DirectShow filters) and click Properties.

Thank you, this might work. Although I dont quite understand the program itself. The list of DirectShow shows a helluva lot of codecs, anyway I go to MPEG Video Decoder which shows some stupid microsoft decoder. How exactly do I change it to PureVideo. I have no idea at all...

what CPU/GPU do you have?

Since you dont get the PureVideo icon then it means that its not the decoder used to decode your HD file. use RadLight filtermanager and set the NVIDIA Video Decoder merit to the highest under DirectShowFilters.

Here are some settings for PureVideo that you can try.
De-interlace control set to automatic
De-interlance Mode set to best available
nView support set to Prefer VMR9
Make sure Hardware accelearation is checked.

Well thanks, I do understand that PureVideo didnt work correctly. This is the whole reason for me creating this post. Problem is I didnt understand the RedLight program. I will give it another go when I get back.

Thanks again

RadLight is very easy. It’s a program that identifies all your DirectShow Filters. Under DirectShow Filters you can do the following things.

1) see all the filters that are installed on your pc
2) Open and change the options (if it exists) of the selected Filter
3) Set merits on your filters. A higher merit will make the selected filter used over another filter with lower merit. (i.e. you have 2 MPEG2 decoder filters installed on your pc DScaler and PureVideo and you set the PureVideo merit to MERIT_PREFERRED + 1 and the DScaler decoder merit to MERIT_NORMAL then when you playback an MPEG2 file PureVideo will be used over DScaler decoder).
4) Unregistered filters that you don’t want.

Its better to use graphedit first before changing your filter merits. With graphedit you can open a video file and see which codecs will be used to decode it, both video and audio. If graphedit shows that Dscaler or any other MPEG2 decoder then you have 2 options.

i) Either set a higher merit for PureVideo and lower merit for the other MPEG2 decoders.
ii) Unregistered all other MPEG2 decoders that you don’t want to use (i.e. DScaler, MPV the ones that come with MP installation bundle)

I hope this is helpful enough.

I have tried it with Graphedit and Filtermanager on an older computer. This computer had some codec packs installed *shrug*. Anyway, I managed to change the codec to purevideo. Thanks for the help. Now I will apply it to my HTPC also.:D

Tried it with the HTPC. Still stutters, but less. Im trying out a 720p HD-clip. On my "old" computer with 6600GT it works great with only 20% CPU, on my HTPC with 6150 it stutters but also here only 20% CPU. Thought it would help the GPU with the rest. Anyway, nvidia states 6150 should be able to do 720p. Thats why I bought it on-board. Could it be some other thing messing about? Like demuxer or somehting?

ANy thoughts=?

well the obvious here is what kind of CPUs do you have your old pc and ur HTPC.

6150 should do 720p MPEG2 and H264 just fine. dunno why it shutters.

In my old pc there is a AMD64 3000+ on a 939 board. On my HTPC I got a AMD64 3500+ on a AM2 board (faster board). I will try to uninstall today and reinstall everything from scrach.

Update: tried it with no better results. I can't get it. The same clip runs perfect when using CoreAVC or Cyberlink, but I guess they do it with CPU. This is really disturbing, there was a reason I choose nvidia as my on-board GPU.

How could it be that when playing the clip the CPU is down at 15-20% (not working at all). Should it not help out the last bit? Really confused and angry at this now.
